Helping Banks Meet 401(k) Service Demand

".....State Street Global Advisors in Boston and Citigroup Inc. aligned themselves last December to form CitiStreet and create online access and value-added services for current and future participants in the 401(k) and 403(b) plans both companies offer. Today, CitiStreet serves five million participants in companies and municipalities throughout the United States and manages $200 billion of assets.

James Gilbert, president of 401(k) Easy, an Internet retirement specialist that offers plans for companies with one to 10 employees, said that even though the Internet is improving the ability of all companies to offer products, smaller companies still are neglected. The 2000 census found that 89% of companies with fewer than 50 employees, 72% of companies with 50 to 100, and 66% of companies with 100 to 250 workers do not offer 401(k) plans...."
